CEREC® crowns have changed the way our patients at Eureka Smiles think about dental work. Since CEREC® allows many individuals to simply make an appointment to replace a broken crown or repair a damaged tooth and walk out that same day with a beautiful restoration, some people wonder if this innovative procedure is “too good to be true.” So, the question is: Are crowns made in an off-site dental laboratory – that traditionally take a week or two to produce – better than the CEREC® crowns that we can create right here in our office?

There are many factors that impact the quality of a dental crown. CEREC® crowns are created using digital tooth impressions, which typically have a much higher degree of accuracy compared to traditional molds. Therefore, crowns that are created utilizing digital impressions may fit more precisely against the natural tooth structure and significantly reduce the risk of bacteria leaking beneath the crown.

As far as aesthetics are concerned, the look of your crown can depend upon the skill of your dentist or lab technician. There is no guarantee that a lab-made crown will look “better” than a CEREC® crown; in fact, some labs may even use CEREC® technology to create their crowns, virtually eliminating any difference between the two methods. Perhaps most importantly, the skill of your dentist will always play a role in the look of your final results. Dentists like Dr. Eric Klumb combine an artistic eye with practical experience to help you achieve a rejuvenated smile that meets your expectations.

In a way, CEREC® actually brings the dental laboratory into our practice to help patients enjoy both excellent results and a more convenient treatment process. If you have questions about CEREC® same-day restorations, or if you would like to schedule an appointment, please contact Eureka Smiles today.
